Our morning begins with a short drive to Phedi where our trek begins. A long but steady climb up flag-stone steps takes us through the picturesque village of Dhampus. Our first views of the Annapurna wait to great us at the ridge and the village of Pothana. | ||||

The first section of today's trek is full of classic views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Fishtail as we head through Landruk and down to the Modi Khola. We then have another long steady climb through the village of Ghandrung, a large Gurung community, to Ghandruk. Here we can relax and enjoy the sunset panorama in front of us. | ||||

Today is a fairly short trek ascending through a dense moss-covered forest rich with bird life. Throughout the trek views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhare lie to the north. | ||||
7 | Tadapani - Dobato | 7 hours | 3500 | Easy |
Now we leave the beaten path and encounter unspoilt village life. It is unlikely that we will encounter other trekkers as we ascend a trail border with vines, bamboo, and flush with bird life to the village of Dobato. | ||||
8 | Dobato – Sistibung | 4 hours | 2990 | Easy |
A breakfast with great views of Annapurana, Fishtail and Dhaulagiri is followed by an easy ridge trail. We then trek through rhododendron and pine forest to our camp. | ||||
9 | Sistibung - Khobra ridge | 4 hours | 3650 | Easy |
We now spend two days exploring the mid-Himalayan villages around Baraha Lekh (Nepali for hill). This is an ideal opportunity to see a Nepal that has remained unchanged for centuries and exchange a few laughs with the locals along the way. We take our time here, the moments of insight that we gain will provide precious memories of a people who have few possessions but a great spirit. Throughout both days the Annapurna Range will provide a magnificent backdrop to our wonderings.

Now we head back to the main trails, first through rhododendron forest to the village of Tatopani. From here we climb gradually to the village of Ghorepani and our camp for the night.

Fabulous panoramic views will delight us today, stretching away to the distant plains of India and up to the massive bulk of the Annapurnas. We wake up in the early morning to climb Poon Hill from where we will see the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Mustang Ranges. Back onto quieter trails after breakfast takes us towards Nayagi village, the path going through the rhododendron and pine forest. During the evening children from local school will come to perform a little dance show, and to collect a small donation of course. A day in the Himalaya doesn't get much better than this!

The trail traverses some beautiful countryside today as we pass through Magar village and climb over the hill on its far side - watch for the many birds around us here.

As we descend we pass through many interesting villages and the mountain views gradually disappear. The sound of the river burbling past makes is easy to fall asleep in our last camp tonight.
