Bardiya National Park (Jungle Safari Tour)

The largest national park of Nepal named Bardiya or Bardia National Park was established on 1988 B.S. It covers an area of 968 sq km (374 sq mi) with beautiful sal forest, grassland, savannah and riverine forest. The undisturbed national park is located at the Terai, Eastern part of Nepal. It is bordered by the Karnali River and bisected by the Babai River in the Bardiya district on the east. On the north, it has a boundary with the Silwal Hills. On the south, a part of Nepalgunj- Surkhet Highway touches it without disturbing the park. On the west, small human settlements with the Tharu’s people can be seen.
Bardiya National Park is covered with 53 mammals with the very species of Bengal tigers, wild asian elephants, one-horned rhinos, swamp deers, Gangetic dolphin, gharial crocodiles, leopard, grey langur monkeys, etc. Also, it has 407 different species of birds like Bengal florican, white-rumped vulture, peafowl, saras crane, bar-headed geese,etc. The park consists of 839 species of flora, including 173 vascular plant species comprising 140 dicots, 26 monocots, 6 ferns, and one gymnosperm species. It also consists 125 species of fishes.

The best time to visit Bardia National Park is from mid-September till mid-December and the start of February till the end of May. During these months day temperatures vary between 25 up till 37 degrees and animals will move to the river to drink which gives you better chances to spot them.

Day Route
Day 1 Arrive in Kathmandu (1,300m /4,264 ft)

When the clients arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, we, the representative from Pema treks & expedition will welcome you displaying the name of the clients on a board. We then help you with your baggage and car (private). You will be transferred to hotel.

Day 2 Arrival in Bardiya National Park (300m/1000ft)

We will have flight to Nepalgunj airport by Airplane. When the clients arrived at Nepalgunj Airport, the representative from Pema treks & expedition will welcome you with Jeep or private vehicle for next 90KM drive to get to Bardiya National Park. It takes around 2-3 hours drive to get to Bardiya National Park. After check in at hotel, we will take some rest and then visit local Tharu village. Tharu are the original inhabitants in the National park.

Day 3 Jungle safari by Hiking

Having the breakfast done, we set out on safari by foot/Hiking through the Jungle. We will be accompanied by our local experienced Safari guide. The steamy jungles of Bardia is home to a number of wild animals including Asian elephant, one horn rhinoceros, spotted deer, hog deer, barking deer, samber, swamp deer, black buck, wild boar, royal Bengal tiger, leopard, golden jackal, striped hyena and others. There are also towers (Machan) at different places within the jungle where we can wait for unsuspecting wild-lives to pass us by. Our guide will help us track the wildlife. Having safari done, we will hike back to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 4 Elephant safari and visit breeding centers

After breakfast we set forth on an interesting elephant-back safari. Apart from the fun, another benefit of elephant-back safari is that there is a better chance of seeing wild animals, since the wild animals are less scared when you're on the top of their mammoth friend. Moreover, riding the elephant also saves us from any potential attacks by the wild animals.  The elephants usually head northwest and we may see deer, langoor monkeys, rhinos and boars. After Lunch, we will visit Crocodile breeding center and Elephant breeding Center in the afternoon and have overnight stay at hotel.

Day 5 Bird Watching and Jeep Safari

After breakfast we set out on early morning Jeep safari through the Jungle. There are specific trail for Jeep safari. Our guide will take us to the places where we could see more and more wild animals. Bardiya National park have quite number of resident and migratory birds. So, we will get opportunity to see more variety of birds. Having thus done, we will drive back to hotel and have lunch. After lunch our representative will drop you at Nepalgunj airport for evening flight to Kathmandu.

Flight back to Kathmandu

We fly back to Kathmandu after our tour. The early flight will drop us in Kathmandu domestic terminal airport. You can have whole evening relax on your own way. If you are thinking of taking some souvenir from Nepal to your relatives, friends, then you can visit the outlets in Thamel by yourself or with guide from Pema treks. You will be invited for the dinner in Thamel for the successful trip.
